Orwig, William. (September 25, 1810--May 29, 1889). Evangelical. Historian, editor, bishop (1859), college president, book agent (1836), promoter of missions. Assisted in making new edition of Das Geistliche Viole, most important hymnbook in German America. Hymns, well-loved, included "Komm Geist vom Thron herab."
