Mabel Hay Barrows Mussey was the daughter of Samuel June Barrows and Isabel Chapin Barrows. Her father was a Unitarian minister, congressman and prison reformer. Her mother was the first woman ophthalmologist and also worked closely with her husband. Mabel was a Greek shcolar, dramatic director, actor and dancer producing and acting in a number of Greek dramas around the country. She married Henry Raymond Mussey in 1905. She compiled the Unitarian hymnal Social Hymns of Brotherhood and Aspiration, intended to be an ecumenical collection of Social Gospel hymns.
