Heinlein’s (also Hainlein) first training came from a local musician who taught him to play the keyboard and wind instruments. He went on to study in Linz, Austria; Munich, Germany, and in Italy (1646). He was appointed Rathsmusikus in Nuremburg in 1650; organist at St. Ägydien in 1655, Kapellmeister at the Church of Our Lady in 1656, and organist at St. Sebald’s Cathedral in 1656. His works include six books of mourning and funeral hymns, and tunes contributed to other collections.
