Haas attended public schools in Jefferson City, Missouri, and graduated from Elmhurst College, near Chicago, Illinois (1883) and Eden Theological Seminary, Webster Groves, Missouri (1886). He organized and served at St. James Church, St. Louis, Missouri (1886-1903), and was pastor of St. Paul’s Church, Buffalo, New York (1903-28).
