Freudentheil, Wilhelm Nicolaus , was born June 5, 1771, at Stade, in Hannover, and studied at the University of Gottingen, from which, in 1841, he received the degree of D.D. He became, in 1816, diaconus of St. Nicholas's Church, Hamburg, and subsequently archidiaconus. He died at Hamburg, March 7, 1853.

One of his hymns has been translated:—
Der Vater kennt dich, kenn auch ihn. [God's Omniscience]. Appeared in Severin Vater's Jahrbuch für häusliche Andacht. Halle, 1829, p. 56, in 6 stanzas. Translated as, "The Father knows thee! Learn of Him," by Mrs. Findlater, in Hymns from the Land of Luther, 1862, p. 52 (1884, p. 216).
