Merge or not?

Is there a reason why "O Jesus Christ, may hymns to thee be rising" and "O Jesus Christ, may grateful hymns be rising" have separate authorities? If not, which should be kept and which merged into it? It appears to me that the former is the original, and the latter a modernizing alteration (albeit possibly altered by the author, I can't really tell.

Hi,

I have merged these. It is the same hymn, although the first line has been modified. In trying to decide which version to keep I consider which version is in the majority and also which version are editors likely to find. In this case, I kept "O Jesus Christ, may grateful..." because this is the version appearing in the newer hymnals.

That's the same route I would have followed if I'd merged them without asking first. Which is encouraging.
