I am new to Hymnary.org and wondering if anyone else uses OrganAssist ( http://www.organassist.com/ ). For the past year I have been involved in providing organ music for my congregation on a midi-enabled digital organ and I have settled on OrganAssist as the easiest and best (for me) method of getting the organ to play preludes, special music, and hymn accompaniments. I am not an organist or keyboard player, but have found with midi assistance and a lot of study about organ registration, I can actually do a fair job of providing organ music for the congregation. Yes, a real organist would be a better solution, but organists are few and far between where I live and the congregation is small and could not afford a good organist anyway.
Is it possible for Hymnary.org to accept other file formats than midi and mp3 (such as the OrganAssist file format) to be added to the audio lists for hymns?
For those of us with midi-enabled organs, sharing OrganAssist files not only shares the notes but shares a good approximation of the registration as well. For example, a hymn I have set up in midi-assist is easily playable (and easily modified if necessary) on any other organ set up with OrganAssist. Volume, tempo, and registration are also easily changed even while the music is being played.
Unfortunately, the developer of OrganAssist is no longer working on the program and there are some improvements needed. Perhaps more use of this freeware would encourage the developer to return to his work!
Or perhaps you can share another program with me that you find can do an equally good job at sharing not only notes but organ registration as well. Other than playing the right notes, registration is the key to good organ playing and I have found registration can move a hymn from "mediocre" to "excellent" in both sound and congregational singing.
Thanks
