Hymn-writing Competition

Hello!

My name is Ian Riley, and I am writing on behalf of Hill St. Music, a group
of musicians from a home fellowship in Alplaus, NY.

We are a group of Christians who believe that there is power, and value in
music, and song-writing, but also realize that some of the more modern
worship music lacks the richness and depth that characterizes our favorite
hymns. In an effort to return to a style of worship that focuses more on the
integrity of the lyrics being biblical, rather than the catchiness of a tune,
or how upbeat a song may be, we have recently been hosting a hymn-writing
competition. Our goal is to encourage men and women to serve the Lord through
taking old hymn tunes and writing new lyrics to them, which are then judged
on various points, such as theological richness, depth of language, and
applicability for group singing.

We have had a good amount of success with the past two competitions, but
naturally, the usefulness of something like this grows exponential with each
and every contribution, and so it is our desire to spread the word about our
competition in the hopes that even one more song would be added to the
hymnals, that one more person would be encouraged to serve the Lord
full-throttle because of the work of the Holy Spirit through the music that
is written in response to the competition.

If there is any chance that you would be willing to pass this information
along to anyone you think might be interested, or if you would be interested
in hosting a link on your site, I think that it would be a valuable resource
for people who desire to write hymns, but may not know what to write about,
or have a real motivation to do so.

Any questions, comments or suggestions, please don't hesitate to write back.

Thank you so much for your time.

God bless,
Ian Riley
