132. The Door of Mercy

1 I heard a voice that said, “Arise!
And to the Saviour go;
He longs to welcome thy return,
He waits His love to show.”
I came a weary, trembling soul,
With all my guilt and sin;
I knocked at mercy’s door, and cried,
“Dear Saviour, let me in!”
I knocked at mercy’s door, and cried,
“Dear Saviour, let me in!”

2 I plead the merits of His death,
I had no other plea;
“Look up, repenting one,” He said,
“Look up, and trust in Me.”
I felt His cleansing blood applied
To wash away my sin;
The prayer of faith was not in vain,
The Saviour let me in,
The pray’r of faith was not in vain,
The Saviour let me in.

3 Now shall my tongue with rapture sing
The joy my heart has found;
The wondrous story of the Cross
Proclaim to all around.
Oh come, be reconciled to God,
Forsake the paths of sin;
At mercy’s door the Saviour waits
To let the wand’rer in,
At mercy’s door the Saviour waits
To let the wand’rer in.
