117. The Three-fold Promise

1 Oh, golden promise, grand and sweet
As joy-bells softly ringing,
Adown the ages peace and hope
To burdened spirits bringing.

Refrain:
Ask, seek, ask, knock,
And it shall be opened unto you;
Ask, seek, ask, knock,
And it shall be opened unto you.

2 Ask—and the tender heart of God,
Responsive to thy pleading,
Will send a princely gift of grace,
Thy highest faith exceeding. [Refrain]

3 Seek—with an earnest soul and know
The blessedness of finding
A light to guide thy stumbling steps
Through darkness thick and blinding. [Refrain]

4 Knock—and the Lord of Life for thee
Will open wide the portal,
And rest and peace and heaven are thine,
An heritage immortal. [Refrain]
