80. The Shepherd

1 In green pastures large and fair,
All the way, all the way,
Jesus, Shepherd, leads with care,
Leads His flock with tender care;
And His sheep by waters clear;
With the lambs, with the lambs,
He is watching, watching, watching ever near;
O’er the lambs, little lambs
He is watching, watching, watching ever near
By the waters still and clear.
Thus His flock with tender care,
All the way, all the way
He has watched in pastures fair, in pastures fair
By the waters still and clear.

2 If in unknown paths they stray,
“Follow me, follow me,”
Jesus’ voice is heard alway,
Gently calling “Follow me;”
His own sheep the voice obey,
And the lambs, and lambs,
Jesus calls them gently, gently lest thy stray,
Little lambs, little lambs,
Calls them gently, gently, gently lest they stray
In the rough and thorny way.
Thus His flock the voice obey,
“Follow me, follow me,”
When He calls them gently, gently, lest they stray
In the rough and thorny way.

3 When the day at length is passed,
To the fold, to the fold,
As the shades of night grow fast
On the way, now dark and cold,
The good Shepherd takes His sheep,
And the lambs, and the lambs,
Them He safely, safely will forever keep;
Little lambs, little lambs;
Them He safely, safely will forever keep
In the loving Saviour’s fold.
Thus His flock when day is past,
To the fold, to the fold,
Will be gathered safe, all gathered safe at last
In the loving Saviour’s fold.
