807. We plough the fields and scatter

1 We plough the fields and scatter
the good seed on the land,
but it is fed and watered
by God’s almighty hand:
you send the snow in winter,
the warmth to swell the grain,
the breezes and the sunshine,
and soft refreshing rain.

Refrain:
All good gifts around us
are sent from heaven above;
We thank you, Lord, we thank you, Lord
for all your love.

2 You only are the Maker
of all things near and far;
you paint the wayside flower,
you light the evening star;
the winds and waves obey you;
by you the birds are fed;
much more to us, your children,
you give our daily bread. [Refrain]

3 We thank you, our provider,
for all things bright and good,
the seed-time, and the harvest,
our life, our health, our food.
No gifts have we to offer
for all your love imparts,
but that which you most welcome:
our humble, thankful hearts. [Refrain]

FRENCH -
1 Les astres dans leur course,
l’orage et les éclairs,
le gai babil des sources,
le vol de l’aigle fier',
le tendre amour d'un père,
un beau regard d’enfant,
le sang dans nos artères:
tout vient du Dieu vivant.

Refrain:
Bénis ton Dieu sans cesse,
ô peuple des chrétiens,
fais tiennes ses promesses,
jouis de tous ses biens.

2 La perle de rosée,
les grappes de raisin,
le chant de l’épousée,
l’arôme du bon pain
et le joyeux cortège
des mois et des saisons,
les fins cristaux de neige,
à Dieu nous les devons. [Refrain]

3 Bénis, bénis, mon âme,
le Dieu de Jésus-Christ,
et ses bienfaits proclame,
bienfaits d’un si grand prix.
Il sème en abondance,
le long de tes sentiers,
les dons qu’en sa clémence
il veut multiplier. [Refrain]
