89. Are You Sowing the Seed?

1 Are you sowing the seed over soil rich and fertile,
In the broad field of life each day?
Are you sowing the seed that will spring up in beauty,
And in splendor along the way?

Refrain:
The harvest is soon,
The reaping-time will come!
Sow the seeds that are good and will yield abundant harvest,
When the sheaves are gathered home.

2 Are you sowing the seed over soil that is stony,
With indiff’rent and careless hand?
Are you sowing the seed that will bring forth a harvest
Full of thorns over all the land? [Refrain]

3 After seedtime is over, then cometh the reaping,
Hear the Lord of the harvest say:
“Gather into my barns all the sheaves bright and golden,
Casting chaff and the tares away!” [Refrain]
