152. The Flag of the Free

1 Dear flag of our country, the emblem of freedom,
Fling out thy broad folds o’er the land and the sea!
Let thy stars, emblematic, gleam from the blue azure,
And thy stars float o’er freemen both loyal to thee!

Refrain:
Then wave it aloft, our star-spangled banner,
And fling out its folds over land and o’er sea!
May the eagle of victory perch on its standard,
And our homes rest secure ‘neath the flag of the free.

2 NO hand that is alien shall drag down thy colors;
We hold thee aloft that the whole world may see
That the star-spangled banner shields not the oppressor,
But is now and forever the flag of the free. [Refrain]
