1 Kind is the speech of Christ our Lord,
Affection sounds in ev'ry word;
"Thou art my chosen one he cries,
"Bound to my heart by various ties."
2 Sweet ist thy voice, dear Lord, to me,
"I will behold no spot in thee;"
What mighty wonders love performs,
And puts a comeliness on worms!
3 Defil'd and loathsome as we are,
He mak'st us white, and call'st us fair
Adorn'st us with that heav'nly dress,
Thy graces and thy righteousness.
4 O may my spirit daily rise,
On wings of faith above the skies;
Till death shall make my last remove,
To dwell for ever in thy love!
