95. Can it Be True?

1 Tell it again! let me hear the strange story;
Can it be true that for me Jesus died?
Did He step down from the throne of His glory?
Thorn-crown’d, rejected, was crucified?

Refrain:
Yes, it is true that for thee Jesus suffered;
Yes, it is true that for thee Jesus died.

2 Tell it again! let me hear it; I’m weary,
Weary of sin, of its guilt, of its shame;
Can it be true? for sin’s pathway is dreary,
Shadow’d with sorrow, with darkness, with blame. [Refrain]

3 Tell it again! for my heart, in its sadness,
Longs for the peace which you tell me He gives;
Can it be true that for me there is gladness?
Can it be true that my sins He forgives? [Refrain]

4 Tell it again! I will try to believe it;
If it is true that for me Jesus cares,
Blessed salvation! I now will receive it;
Jesus my sinfulness lovingly bears. [Refrain]
