168. O Give Thanks

1 O give thanks unto the Lord for His loving watch beside us,
For His wisdom ever seeing far beyond the hidden years;
For His strong and tender arms, that, whatever may betide us,
Fold us safe within His bosom, from our sorrows and our tears.

2 O give thanks unto the Lord for the Spirit He has given,
By His Holy Presence telling of the Father and the Son;
Drawing us away from earth to the purer realms of heaven,
Till we mingle with its holiness before His shining throne.

3 O give thanks unto the Lord for the rest beyond the river,
For the solace of the weary heart on yonder peaceful shore,
Where distress and doubting cease, and His love prevails forever,
And we greet again our loved ones, to be parted never more.
