Text: | High-Priest |
Author: | Cennick |
1 A good high-priest is come,
Supplying Aaron's place,
And taking up his room,
Dispensing life and grace:
The law by Aaron's priesthood came,
But grace and truth by Jesus' name.
2 My Lord a priest is made,
As sware the mighty God,
To Israel and his seed,
Ordain'd to offer blood:
For sinners who his mercy seek,
A priest, as was Melchizedeck.
3 He once temptations knew,
Of every sort and kind,
That he might succour shew,
To every tempted mind:
In every point the lamb was try'd
Like us, and then for us, he dy'd.
4 He dies, but lives again,
And by the altar stands;
There shews how he was slain,
Op'ning His pierced hands.
Our priest abides, and pleads the cause
Of us who have transgress'd his laws.
5 I other priests disclaim,
And laws and offerings too,
None but the bleeding lamb
The mighty work can do:
He shall have all the praise, for he
Hath lov'd, and liv'd, and dy'd for me.
