17. Lead me to the Rock That Is Higher Than I

1 With spirit tuned aright, O help me, Lord, to pray;
To cast my cares on Thee, For Thee to bear away;
I'm burden'd down with wo. O do not pass me by,
But "lead me to the Rock that higher is than I."

2 I've wander'd from the path where rest and peace are found
O'er hanging cliffs and gulfs encircle me around;
My Father, take me on, till I the light descry,
And "lead me to the Rock that higher is than I."

3 'Tis sweet to trust a friend--an erring one, may be,
How precious to confide in One so true and free;
O, draw me to Thyself, I would on Thee rely,
And "lead me to the Rock that higher is than I."

4 I went from Thee away, and knew not that I stray'd,
Till darkness and despair about me were array'd;
O, hide me with Thy wing, or else with grief I die,
And "lead me to the Rock that higher is than I."
