19. The Pearl of Great Price

1 I once was a wand’rer, far from God,
I knew not the light of his face;
I chose the dark paths of sin and doubt,
Refusing to learn of his grace.

Refrain:
But now I am saved, yes, I’m saved,
Sin’s pleasures no longer entice;
I’ve found something better than all,
The wonderful pearl of great price.

2 ‘Twas while I was seeking joys of earth,
With heart filled with longing and pain,
That Christ gently came and showed the way
The pearl of great price to obtain. [Refrain]

3 My hand into his at last I put,
And O what a wonderful peace
Came over my soul in flood of joy,
With knowledge of fullest release. [Refrain]

4 A long time I walked in sinful ways,
And knew not the joys of his love;
But all of earth’s pleasures count as naught,
Compared to this pearl from above. [Refrain]
