579. Jerusalem the Golden

1 Jerusalem the golden,
with milk and honey blest,
beneath thy contemplation
sink heart and voice oppress'd:
I know not, Oh, I know not,
what joys await us there,
what radiancy of glory,
what bliss beyond compare.

2 They stand, those halls of Zion,
conjubilant with song,
and bright with many an angel,
and all the martyr throng:
the cross is all their splendor,
The Crucified their praise,
his laud and benediction
his ransomed people raise.

3 There is the throne of David,
and there, from sin released,
the shout of them that triumph,
the song of them that feast,
and they who with their Leader
have conquered in the fight,
forever and forever
are clad in robes of white.

4 There God, our King and Portion,
the fullness of his grace
shall we behold forever
and worship face to face.
Then all the halls of Zion
for aye shall be complete,
and in the land of beauty
all things of beauty meet.
