Text: | How Blest Are They, O Lord |
Author: | A. Toplady |
Tune: | SONG 20 |
Composer (melody and bass): | Orlando Gibbons |
1 How blest are they, O Lord,
who stay themselves on thee;
who wait for thy salvation, Lord,
shall thy salvation see.
2 When we in darkness walk,
not feel the heav'nly flame,
then is the time to trust our God,
and call upon his name.
3 Soon shall our doubts and fears
subside at his control:
his lovingkindness shall break thro'
the midnight of the soul.
4 Wait till the shadows flee;
wait thy appointed hour;
wait till the Bridegroom of thy soul
reveals his love with power.
5 His grace will to the end
stronger and brighter shine,
nor present things, nor things to come
shall quench the spark divine.
