96. The Lord is My Shepherd

1 The Lord is my Shepherd, no want shall I know,
He makes me to rest where the green pastures grow;
He takes me away from the world and its strife,
And leads me beside the still waters of life.

2 My soul often weary with sin and with care,
He restores and gives strength in answer to pray’r.
In th’path of the righteous my feet he will keep;
The Lord is my Shepherd; he guardeth his sheep.

3 When thro’ the deep valley of death I shall go,
Its shade shall not fright me, no evil I’ll know.
Thou, Shepherd, art with me; thy staff and thy rod
My comfort shall be thro’ this pathway to God.

4 Thou spread’st me a table in presence of foes,
With thy love and rich grace my cup overflows;
With goodness and mercy thou crownest my days,
And fain would I dwell with thee, ever to praise.
