Text: | Come Unto Me and Rest |
Author: | Eben E. Rexford |
Tune: | [Oh! are there any words more sweet than these] |
Composer: | C. D. Amstutz |
1 Oh! are there any words more sweet than these,
In all the Savior’s tender promises?
They touch a tender chord in every breast,–
“Come unto me and I will give you rest.”
Refrain:
“Come unto me,” he whispers, as he stands
And shows the nail-prints in his bleeding hands;
“Come unto me with all thy sins opprest,
Come unto me and I will give you rest.”
2 “Come unto me when faint and weary grown,”
Oh, sweetest invitation ever known;
Come, bring your sins and lay them at his feet,
And taste of rest divinely full and sweet. [Refrain]
3 Come unto him, oh, heavy-laden, come,
For you he died, oh, soul, no longer roam,
Be all the sins that trouble you confest,
And trusting him thou shall most surely rest. [Refrain]
4 “Come unto me,” oh, words divinely sweet;
Our hearts remember what his lips repeat,
And glad thoughts rise in every troubled breast,
When they accept the freely offered rest. [Refrain]
