161. Writing Each Day

1 Life is but a story written down
On the tablets of memory,
Each one writing for himself alone,
Each a record for eternity.

Refrain:
Ev’ry day we live we’re writing, writing!
Shall the record show the blight of sin?
Keep its pages clear!
Bring His kingdom near!
Ask Jesus the way, and walk therein.

2 Each new day presents a page of white,
Hour by hour an opportunity;
Secret sin and loving service true,
All are written down unerringly. [Refrain]

3 Never-ending shall the record be,
And the writing we can ne’er efface;
Blessed shall he be when life is o’er
Who each day has written, “Saved by grace!” [Refrain]
