240. Lo, God is here; let us adore

1 Lo! God is here; let us adore!
How awe-inspiring is this place!
Let all within us feel his power,
and silent bow before his face;
who know this power, his grace who prove,
serve him with fear, with reverence love.

2 Lo, God is here! whom day and night
the choirs of holy angels sing;
to him, enthroned above all height,
heaven's host their noblest praises bring;
do not despise our humbler song,
who praise you with a faltering tongue.

3 Being of beings! may our praise
your courts with grateful fragrance fill;
still may we stand before your face,
still hear and do your sovereign will;
to you may all our thoughts arise,
ceaseless, accepted sacrifice.
