• Notes: According to John P. Wiegand, the editor of Praise for the Lord, the 1879 text alteration was made by a Unitarian publisher who edited the final line of the first stanza to remove the original reference to the Trinity. The Fillmore Brothers found this hymn in that Unitarian hymnal and introduced the hymn to the Stone-Campbell churches, apparently unaware of the alteration. This alteration thus persisted in some hymnals of the churches of Christ.
