This setting combines elements of jazz with plainsong chant. The tone for the chanted text has four
cadences. Roll the chord before the singing of each phrase. The keyboard punctuates the phrases of the chant
with a couple of beats of interlude. The soloist singing the stanzas may improvise the chanted text within the
chord structure provided in the tone. The three eighth notes leading out of the tone accompaniment (played
by keyboard and/or bass) are all that is needed to reestablish the rhythm of the refrain. |
