190. Open the Door

1 Open the door to the Saviour,
Welcome the Christ to thy heart,
Answer the voice that is calling,
Suffer Him not to depart.
Lowly, unheeded, He stands there,
Waiting thy leave to come in;
Open the door to the Saviour,
Bringing God’ pardon for sin.

2 Open the door to the Saviour,
Think of the sorrows He bore;
Think of the patience of Jesus,
Waiting outside at the door.
Answer the hands that are knocking—
Once they were nailed to the tree;
Welcome the feet of the Saviour,
Coming from heaven for thee.

3 Open the door to the Saviour,
Tell Him what frets and annoys,
Lay on His shoulders life’s burdens,
Give Him a part in its joys.
Pleasures were lonely without Him,
Sorrows beside Him grow bright;
Open the door to the Saviour,
Open thy heart to the light.
