172a. Hark! the morning bells are ringing!

1 Hark! the morning bells are ringing!
Children, haste without delay;
Prayers of thousands now are winging
Up to heav'n their silent way.

Chorus:
Come, children come! the bells are ringing,
To the school with haste repair;
Let us all unite in singing,
All unite in solemn prayer.

2 'Tis an hour of happy meeting,
Children meet for praise and prayer;
But the hour is short and fleeting,
Let us then be early there. [Chorus]

3 Do not keep your teacher waiting,
While you tarry by the way;
Nor disturb the school reciting,
'Tis the holy Sabbath day. [Chorus]

4 Children, haste! the bells are ringing,
And the morning's bright and fair;
Thousands now unite in singing,
Thousands, too, in solemn prayer. [Chorus]
