16. It Doesn't Matter to Me

1 In de world dere's much belevin, as ter if de Bible's so,
'Tis wid Jonah folks seem puzzled, how into de whale he go:
Dey can't stand it nor can't solve it, how a whale could him receive,
'Tis a problem in de Bible, dat is hard for dem to bleve;
But it doesn't matter to me, if de whale did swallow Jonah,
Or if Jonah swallowed de whale.

2 Once de debil raised de question, as to where de Moses lay,
And de Michael, he contended, 'pears to me for many a day:
Till our God rebuked de debil, and de angel had his way,
Yet de debil keeps a fussin, bout de resurrection day;
But it doesn't matter to me, if our God did bury Moses,
Or if Moses buried hisself.

3 Some high 'fessers of religin, can't see how de Bible's true,
Some's a figurin, and a figurin, how we from de monkey grew:
But I bleves in Inspiration, from beginning to de end,
And I'm sorry for dese 'fessers, who for monkey friends contend;
But it doesn't matter to me, if de monkey's your ancestor,
Ise no monkey nor wants to be.
