1 Whene'er I meditate the case,
How vile and poor I am,
How can I preach the gospel grace,
Proclaim the Son of Man?
2 I have a frowning world to face;
I have a heart of pride,
Which doth deprive me of much peace,
And lead me far aside.
3 The needs of my poor family
Do fill my heart with pain;
Then to my God I send a cry,
That he would lend his aid.
4 The mighty God, on whom I call,
Hath an almighty arm:
And when the saints before him fall,
There's none can do them harm.
5 The God of Zion is a King
Both bountiful and kind;
There's none can fault him in his reign,
His love more pure than wine.
6 O come, my brethren, trust in God,
His goodness ne'er will cease;
If you are in great needs and wants,
He helps in deep distress.
7 We'll serve him here in humble fear,
And bear the cross of Christ;
And when we've serv'd our Jesus here,
We'll praise him with the just.
