Further Reflections on Confessions and Statements of Faith References

This song expresses our confidence in the truth and power of the word, as taught in Our World Belongs to God, paragraph 32 and Belgic Confession, 7: These scriptures are sufficient for they contain the will of God completely and “everything one must believe to be saved is sufficiently taught in it.”

Additional Prayers

A Prayer of Acclamation
O God, your words are ever old, ever new. They go before us to lead us. They go behind us to guard us. They go beneath us to support us. They go beside us to befriend us. O God, your words are ever old, ever new. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Ancient Words

Hymn Story/Background

I have a couple of songs that were written because the idea was so compelling to me, it wouldn’t go away. “Ancient Words” is one of those songs. As I state in the chapter on “Ancient Words” from my book: More Precious than Silver.

The longer I walk with the Lord, the more love and appreciation I have for the Bible and for those whom God has used throughout the ages to make it available to me. I suppose that was the true impetus for my writing  “Ancient Words.”

And I also really wanted to treat it as a contemporary hymn, so that’s how the music took shape.
