This song expresses trust in the faithfulness of God who will care for us as a shepherd faithfully cares for his sheep. Heidelberg Catechism, Lord’s Day 1, Question and Answer 1 says, “He also watches over me in such a way that not a hair can fall from my head without the will of my Father in heaven; in fact all things must work together for my salvation.”

 

Additionally, Heidelberg Catechism, Lord’s Day 10, Question and Answer 28 says that the providence of God leads me to trust him fully, being “patient when things go against us, thankful when things go well, and for the future we can have good confidence in our faithful God and Father that nothing in creation will separate us from his love.”

 
Belgic Confession, Article 13 is clear to testify that he “watches over us with fatherly care,” and “in this thought we rest, knowing that God holds in check the devils and all our enemies, who cannot hurt us, without divine permission and will.”

Aaron Keyes has served as worship pastor at Grace Fellowship Church in George, Atlanta, for ten years. He and his wife Megan graduated from Furman University in Greensville, South Carolina, where they were part of planting City Church with Aaron’s parents. Passionate about training worship leaders to become worship pastors, in 2007 Aaron and Megan began their Worship School. For a few months out of the year, a group of young worship leaders live with them and their four sons as part of an intensive worship discipleship course. Aaron travels internationally with his band, leading worship and training leaders.

Stuart Townend (b. 1963) grew up in West Yorkshire, England, the youngest son of an Anglican vicar. He started learning piano at a young age, and began writing music at age 22. He has produced albums for Keith Routledge and Vinesong, among many others, and has also released eight solo albums to date. Some of his better-known songs include “How Deep the Father’s Love,” “The King of Love,” and “The Power of the Cross.” He continues to work closely with friends Keith and Kristyn Getty, and is currently a worship leader in Church of Christ the King in Brighton, where he lives with wife Caroline, and children Joseph, Emma and Eden.
