Musical Suggestion

Often, songs from non-Western traditions add to our repertoire, not because of their exotic sounds, but because of their unique perspective on the Gospel. This Korean song brings a sense of intimacy and devotion that is lacking from most Western hymnody, and it reintroduces the shocking extravagance of the woman anointing Jesus’ feet with tears and oil in Luke 7:37-38. This would make the perfect offertory song during Lent. Music leaders: don’t gild the lily! A simple, unadorned accompaniment like you would with a scripture song such as “As the Deer” is all that’s needed.
