138. The Golden City

1 There is a city, in God’s word we’re told,
Whose gates are pearl, whose streets are paved with gold;
There is no night, but one eternal day,
Never to pass away.

Chorus:
When we leave this world and earthly ties we sever,
When our weary feet shall touch the golden strand,
With our Lord to dwell forever and forever,
He will bid us welcome to the beautiful land.

2 Tongue cannot tell the bliss that waits us there,
But soon we know its glory we shall share,
And, oh, the light of heav’n’s eternal day
Never shall pass away. [Chorus]

3 Only one thing the Savior bids us do:
Let us be faithful, let our hearts be true;
Walk in His steps, the true and living way,
Serve Him from day to day. [Chorus]
