116. When the tempest is high

1 Calmly in the storm that may rage around,
When the sea is high, and the billows heave,
To the Rock cling fast, and be closely bound,
Unto Christ, the refuge, cleave.

Refrain:
On the Saviour rely,
When the tempest is high,
On the Rock of Ages rest,
In the midst of the strife,
And the sorrows of life,
Joy and praise shall pervade thy breast.

2 Tho' the winds may howl and the surges swell,
Tho' the day be dark, and the sky obscure,
On this rock abide, and securely dwell,
'Tis a refuge firm and sure. [Refrain]

3 'Mid the woes and griefs that surround thee here,
When the clouds are thick, and the light is dim,
Christ will guide thy feet, He is ever near,
Put thy trust and hope in Him. [Refrain]
