Text: | Beati Pauperes |
Tune: | [Blessed are the poor in spirit] |
Composer: | James Turle, d. 1882 |
1 Blessed are the poor in spirit;
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
2 Blessed are thy that mourn:
for they shall be comforted.
3 Blessed are the meek:
for they shall inherit the earth.
4 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness:
for they shall be filled.
5 Blessed are the merciful:
for they shall obtain mercy.
6 Blessed are the pure in heart:
for they shall see God.
7 Blessed are the peacemakers:
for they shall be called the children of God.
8 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake;
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
9 Blessed are ye when men shall revile and persecute you
and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely for My sake.
10 Rejoice and be exceeding glad; for great is your reward in heaven:
for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
11 Glory be to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Ghost;
12 As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen.
