35. Help to Send the Light

1 In heathen countries far away,
How many children dwell,
Who never heard the story sweet
which we delight to tell.
They know not of the love that gives
Salvation full and free;
They do not know that Jesus died
That all might ransomed be.

Chorus:
O help to send the light,
The glorious Gospel light.
O help to send the Gospel light,
The glorious light, The heav'nly light.
To show some wand'ring soul the way
Into the bright, glad day.

2 For them no pealing Sabbath bell
Calls to the house of pray'r;
No faithful teacher waits to tell
Of love they all may share;
But all alone they wander on
In darkness and in sin;
Shall we not help those erring souls
For Christ, our Lord, to win? [Chorus]

3 If we were in the midnight gloom
And they in sunshine bright,
Would we not long for them to come
And lead us to the light?
Then let us help them by our pray'rs
And by our off'ring, too;
And know our God will ne'er forget
The good we seek to do. [Chorus]
