41. They that wait upon the Lord

1 There’s a promise hid in the word of God,
‘Tis more precious far than gold,
It provideth strength for the stress of life;
Storms may rage and winds blow cold.

Refrain:
But they that wait upon the Lord
Shall renew their strength,
They shall mount up with wings as eagles,
They shall mount up with wings as eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.

2 To the mountaintop of communion sweet,
We may rise on faith’s glad wings;
There are valleys dark, if we walk alone,
Where the day no brightness brings. [Refrain]

3 You, whose eager feet can so swiftly run,
On the Master’s service bent,
He is resting you, He is blessing you;
Human strength would soon be spent. [Refrain]

4 Oh, ye weary ones on the path of life,
He hath blessing rich for you;
Ye shall walk with Him and ye shall “not faint,”
Hark! the promise ringeth true! [Refrain]
