126. Sowing-Reaping

1 Sow the seed, the precious seed,
Over valley, hill and plain,
That the garners may be filled
With the golden, ripened grain;
While the sun is shining bright,
With an ever-willing hand
Seeds of righteousness and truth
Scatter broadcast o’er the land.

Refrain:
Sowing, reaping,
Sowing the seeds of the kingdom,
Sowing, reaping,
For the glad “Harvest home.”
Sowing, reaping,
Sowing the seeds of the kingdom,
Laden with sheaves, golden sheaves,
May it be ours to come.”

2 Jesus watches as we sow
Seed upon the fertile soil,
Nurtures it to make it grow
And rewards us for our toil.
Many fields are lying waste
Where the weeds and tares have grown;
Root them out and now, today,
Let the gospel seed be sown. [Refrain]

3 Toiling days will soon be o’er,
Reaping time is drawing near,
Shall we empty handed be
When the Master doth appear?
Fields are white to harvest now,
Let us thrust the sickle in,
Many precious sheaves to bring,
And the Lord’s approval win. [Refrain]
