578. O Father, all creating

1 O Father, all-creating,
whose wisdom, love, and power
first bound two lives together
in Eden's primal hour:
the lives of these Your children
with Your best gifts endue:
a home by You made happy,
a love by You kept true.

2 O Saviour, guest most generous
in Galilee of old,
these now who call upon You
within Your love enfold;
their store of earthly gladness
transform to wine of heaven,
and teach them in the tasting
to know by You it's given.

3 O Spirit of the Father,
breathe on them from above,
so mighty in Your pureness,
so tender in Your love,
that, guarded by Your presence,
kept free from strife and sin,
their lives may own Your guidance,
around them and within.

4 Except You build it, Father,
the house is built in vain;
except You, Saviour, bless it,
the joy will turn to pain:
no power can break the union
of hearts in You made one;
and love Your Spirit hallows
is endless love begun.
