1 Have you done your very best,
Has your life met ev’ry test?
Does divine approval rest on what you do?
Did you lend a helping hand?
Help a fallen brother stand?
Is the world a better place because of you.

To the promise that you made have you been true?
Did you ever help another whose friends were all too few?
Is the world a better place because of you?

2 Of your silver and your gold,
Did you from the Lord withhold?
You must leave it all one earth when you are thro’;
To the Word of God give heed,
Give to those who are in need,
Make the world a better place because of you. [Refrain]

3 When you reach the pearly gate,
Will some angel for you wait?
Take you by the hand and lead you safely thro’?
In that land of perfect day,
Will there be some one to say:
“Heav’n will be a better place because of you.” [Refrain]
