50. God is Always Near

1 A gracious word of peace comes unto my soul today;
It fills my heart with joy, and drives my care away;
This blessed word assures, tho’ life may be bright or drear,
I’m ne’er alone; I know that God is near.

I am glad that God in love is so near;
It gives me peace and rest
To feel his presence blest;

2 We can not see him walk along o’er the dusty way,
But close beside his own, he journeys day by day;

3 When worldly joys allure, and thoughtlessly I forget
My vows of love to him, he lingers near me yet;
A gentle voice reminds me that I must serve him here,
