174. The Christmas Story

1 O we love the blessed story,
Story of the long ago;
When the holy infant Saviour,
Nestled in a manger low!
Tho’ we are the little children,
We have learn’d it with delight,
And our youthful lips repeat it,
In a happy song tonight.

Refrain:
We will tell the christmas story,
In our service and our song;
For He is the children’s Saviour,
And our lips to Him belong!

2 How we love to think it over,
Love to picture out the sight,
Of the wise men and their shepherds,
Seeking Him with all their might!
And we wonder at the shining,
Of the star, so clear and strong,
Wonder at the holy angels,
Ringing out their midnight song. [Refrain]

3 Listen! with us, little singers,
Near at home and far away,
Praise Him with their happy voices,
Hymn their christmas songs today.
Would that all the little children,
Thro’ this world, His love could know,
Could repeat the christmas story,
Story of the long ago. [Refrain]
