Text: | Stand Firm |
Author: | Gertrude W. Seibert |
Tune: | [Ye soldiers of the cross] |
Composer: | M. L. McPhail |
1 Ye soldiers of the cross,
Why should ye doubt or fear?
Ye cannot know defeat or loss,
With Christ, our Captain, near.
Refrain:
Stand firm, be not afraid,
Courageous, not dismayed,
For one with God must always win
Against the hosts of sin.
2 Lay hold upon the sword,
Turn not to left or right,
And standing fast upon His word,
Be victors thro’ His might. [Refrain]
3 Be brave, be firm, be strong,
Be fearless in the fight;
The night of battle may seem long,
But sweet the morning’s light. [Refrain]
4 We soon shall see the day
When all our toils shall cease;
When we shall cast our arms away,
And dwell in endless peace. [Refrain]
5 This hope supports us here,
It makes our burdens light;
‘Twill serve our drooping hearts to cheer,
Till faith shall end in sight. [Refrain]
