321. One Sweetly Solemn Thought

1 One sweetly solemn thought
Comes to me o’er and o’er;
I'm nearer to my home today
Than e’er I’ve been before.

2 Nearer my Father’s house,
Where many mansions be,
Nearer the throne where Jesus reigns,
Nearer the crystal sea.

3 Nearer the bound of life
Where burdens are laid down,
Nearer leaving the cross of grief,
Nearer gaining the crown.

4 But lying dark between,
And winding through the night,
Flows on the deep and unknown stream
That leads me to the light.

5 Jesus, perfect my trust,
Strengthen my hand of faith,
And be Thou near me when I stand
Upon the shore of death.

Amen.
