Text: | Psalm 80 |
Tune: | HIDING IN THEE |
Composer: | Ira Sankey |
1. Great Shepherd, who leads all your people in love,
'Mid cherubim dwelling, shine now from above;
In might, come and save us, your people restore,
And we shall be saved when your face shines once more.
2. Make haste, Lord, to hear us, and pity our woes,
Affliction our portion, despised by our foes;
O Lord God Almighty, in mercy restore,
And we shall be saved when your face shines once more.
3. A place for your people, O Lord, you prepared;
Your vine deeply rooted rewarded your care;
Its branches like cedars, majestic and free,
Spread over the mountains from river to sea.
4. Your vineyard no longer your tender care knows,
Defenseless, the victim and spoil of her foes;
O turn, we implore you; all glory is yours;
Look down on your vine and show mercy once more.
5. The branch of your planting is burned and cut down,
Brought near to destruction because of your frown;
The Man of your right hand with wisdom endue;
The Son of Man strengthen your pleasure to do.
6. When you will revive us your name we will praise,
And nevermore, turning, depart from your ways;
O Lord God Almighty, in mercy restore,
And we shall be saved when your face shines once more.
