Text: | After the Day of Toiling |
Author: | Winifred O. Webster |
Tune: | SONGS IN THE NIGHT |
Composer: | Ira B. Wilson |
1 After a day of toiling,
When we have done our best,
And in our Father’s keeping,
Gladly we leave the rest;
Knowing the joy that cometh,
When by a pow’r divine,
Our souls are upward winging,
Our wills are lost in Thine.
Refrain:
Give us songs in the night, Lord,
Wondrous love unfold,
To our enraptured vision,
As in the days of old.
2 Why are we ever weak, Lord,
Anxious or filled with care,
When Thou dost give such visions,
Strength beyond all compare?
Gladly we’d prove Thy promise,
That to the pure in heart
Thou wilt reveal Thyself, Lord,
Thou wilt Thy strength impart. [Refrain]
3 Visions of courage give us,
Help us to choose the way
Jesus has trod before us,
Up to the perfect day;
O’er crag and rugged mountain,
Over the boist’rous sea,
Or to the peaceful valley,
Thy sunlit Galilee. [Refrain]
