1 When with the notes of spring
Begins the air to ring,
And earth anew rejoices;
Awake, my soul, awake,
Let every tongue partake,
And lift united voices.

O sing, sing for gladness,
Now breaks the joyful morn,
Now shines the happy day,
The dark night of sadness
Passeth evermore away;
Our Lord, all victorious,
Hath burst the bars of death,
Hath triumphed o’er the tomb,
And life, life all glorious,
Springeth in eternal bloom.

2 Shall nature’s raptures burst,
And shall not man be first,
His grateful praises singing?
Glad homage will we pay,
To Him who rose this day,
The life immortal bringing. [Refrain]
